Saint Louis University Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center, which sees the most critical or severely injured emergency patients. It is the only trauma center in teh area that is certified as Level I in both Missouri and Illinois. Annually, the hospital treats more than 2,200 trauma cases.

The front door of the trauma center is Saint Louis University Hospital's Emergency Department, which treats 80 to 85 emergency cases each day and more than 30,000 cases per year.
