Saint Louis University Hospital is pleased to introduce the advanced capabilities of the da Vinci® Si Surgical System to its operating room and the greater community. This technology is a significant arrival because of the value it offers the hospital’s surgical staff and patients throughout the region. The da Vinci Si epitomizes the evolution of laparoscopic surgery, improving depth perception and magnification for surgeons performing various procedures, from the most basic to the more complex.

The addition of the da Vinci is just one more way that SLU Hospital is fulfilling its mission as a leading academic teaching institution in the region,” says Crystal Haynes, president and chief executive officer of Saint Louis University Hospital. “We believe that the new features of the da Vinci Si System will help us provide the best possible outcomes and raise industry standards, while giving our community access to the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery.”

The champion of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, the da Vinci Si is ergonomically designed to further enhance a surgeon’s comfort and capabilities. The da Vinci Si has several unique features designed to provide additional clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room, many of which translate to patient benefits. Here are just a few features:

     ·         Enhanced 3D, high-definition vision of operative field with up to 10x magnification

·         New optional dual console allows second surgeon to provide assistance

·         Superior visual clarity of tissue and anatomy

·         Surgical dexterity and precision far greater than even the human hand

·         Updated and simplified user interface to enhance OR efficiency

·         New ergonomic settings for greater surgeon comfort

Together, these technological advancements provide SLU Hospital’s surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally-invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures.

da Vinci’s advanced level of technology takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand. This acquisition complements SLU Hospital’s goal of extending minimally-invasive surgery to the broadest possible base of patients. It can be used for a multitude of procedures, including, but not limited to: prostatectomy, hysterectomy, myomectomy, coronary artery bypass, mitral valve repair and colorectal surgery. Additionally, the da Vinci Si can assist in cross-specialty surgeries, allowing two surgical specialists to operate simultaneously on different areas, thereby preventing the patient from having to undergo two separate surgeries.
