Cancer Center Director Report

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Saint Louis University Cancer Center’s staff maintains a strong commitment to improving lives throughout our community. At the Cancer Center, we balance our endeavors by focusing on innovation, prevention, treatment and hope. This year’s annual report highlights our commitment while focusing on specific treatment procedures in radiation oncology, new technologies, clinical outcomes and research.

The integrated team from Saint Louis University Hospital, SLUCare and Saint Louis University provide a joint venture of diagnostic, prevention and research services. The team utilizes resources throughout the university as well as the Cancer Center. The Center staff includes 80 faculty members from several schools of the university, including the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Allied Health Sciences and Arts and Sciences. This impressive collaboration ensures the highest level of research and advanced care for the patients we serve.

The Cancer Center is physically located in Saint Louis University Hospital’s West Pavilion. It is housed within 30,000 square feet, in which many disciplines interact closely, including the Cancer Center’s director and support staff, ambulatory patient clinics, clinical and research laboratories, the Tissue Repository and the Grand Vision Cancer Information Center.

There are many state-of-the art technologies available at the Cancer Center that emphasize our signature programs such as neurosurgery/neuroncology; cutaneous oncology; liver cancer; the head and neck cancer; and the medical and radiation oncology units.

The impressive diagnostic and treatment options offered at the Cancer Center include the 64-slice PET/CT scanner, CyberKnifeR stereotactic radiosurgical and the SuperDimension™ bronchoscopy system. Many of these options offer treatment of unit lesions that may have previously undergone the maximum allowable dose of traditional radiation therapy or, in some cases, have been inoperable until the new procedure was available.

Our talented group of physicians, researchers and ancillary staff are inspired to develop innovative solutions for our patients and to providing the very best cancer care available in the region. The results provide critical advances to help patients live longer, fuller lives.
