Anjan Bhattacharyya M.B.B.S. 

Department of Neurology & Psychiatry

Division of Psychiatry

Dr. Bhattacharyya is Assistant Professor in the departments of Neurology & Psychiatry, as well as Internal Medicine. He directs the psychiatric consultation-liaison service at SLU Hospital.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Psychosomatic medicine. Prior to coming to SLU he was on faculty at the University of Iowa where he served as the Director of an integrated internal medicine-psychiatry residency program, ran an Integrated Internal Medicine-Psychiatry clinic and developed a collaborative care program for improving the management of common psychiatric problems in the primary care clinics at the Iowa City VA Medical Center. Dr. Bhattacharyya's interests are in integrated treatment of patients who suffer from both physical and psychiatric problems. He is the immediate past President of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry.

 

Melanie McKean, D.O., Ph.D.

Division of Psychiatry

Melanie McKean, D.O., Ph.D., has joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine as an instructor of psychiatry in the Department of Neurology & Psychiatry.

Dr. McKean completed her doctoral work at Oklahoma State University Center for

Health Sciences and earned her medical degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by an internal medicine-psychiatry combined residency at Rush University Medical Center. She joins SLUCare from her residency.

Dr. McKean is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Osteopathic Association. An attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital, Dr. McKean has clinical expertise in women’s mental health and women’s primary care, with a focus on preventative medicine and the reproductive years. In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, Dr. McKean has research interests in women’s health and psychiatry, including postpartum depression, sexual disorders and reproductive dysfunction. In her spare time, Dr. McKean enjoys photography and spending time with her family.

 

Theresa Schwartz, M.D.

Department of Surgery

Division of General and Oncologic Surgery

Theresa Schwartz, M.D., has joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Schwartz earned her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in general surgery, followed by a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at the University of Michigan. She joins SLUCare from her fellowship. Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. Schwartz is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Society of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Schwartz is an attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital and has clinical expertise in breast cancer and benign breast disease. In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Schwartz has research interests in breast cancer in young women and outcome disparities in minorities with breast cancer.

 

Jason R. Taylor, M.D.

Department of Internal Medicine

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Jason R. Taylor, M.D., has joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Taylor earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, followed by a residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University and fellowships in gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy at the University of Michigan Medical Center. After completing his fellowships, Dr. Taylor was on the faculty at the University of Michigan. He joins SLUCare from the University of Michigan Medical Center. Board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Taylor is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Taylor is an attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, and has clinical expertise in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and other gastrointestinal procedures, including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Taylor has research interests in neuroendocrine tumors.

 

Jula Veerapong, M.D.

Department of Surgery

Division of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology

Jula Veerapong, M.D., has joined the faculty of Saint Louis University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology. Dr. Veerapong earned his medical degree from the University of

Illinois College of Medicine, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center and a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He joins SLUCare from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Board-certified in surgery, Dr. Veerapong is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the University of Chicago Surgical Society and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Veerapong is an attending physician at Saint Louis University Hospital and has clinical expertise in hepatopancreaticobiliary malignancies, metastatic colorectal disease, soft tissue sarcomas, peritoneal surface malignancies and melanoma. In addition to patient care and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Veerapong has research interests in hepatopancreaticobiliary malignancies.
