If there is a person among us who deserves to be recognized for outstanding leadership and tireless devotion to patients, her staff and the mission of the hospital, it's Helen. She has always been passionate about nursing, and she embodies the spirit of someone with a true calling to serve those in need.
Helen has been an emergency department nurse for more than 30 years and has taken a "front-line" approach to patient care. She takes mission trips to third-world countries each year to care for those in need. She is also a lead nurse for the disaster medical assistance team, which calls upon her to care for victims of natural disasters across the country. Most of all, she loves what she does, and her spirit is contagious. Saint Louis University Hospital is not just "lucky to have her," the staff is lucky to know her and to have the privilege of working alongside her, for she is what's best about all of us.

Joyce "Joy" Nance-Johnson
As one of our veterans who has worked at Saint Louis University Hospital for 33 years, Joy truly is deeply dedicated to her work, her colleagues and our organization.
Her voice is central to just about any hospital celebration - especially if it involves music! Two years ago, Joy, whose musical background is very impressive, was asked to assemble and direct a hospital choir. The Joyful Choir now can be heard throughout the year performing for employees, patients and guests. But, she does more than just carry a tune. Her spirit is contagious. As the chair of SLU Hospital's Helping Our Own committee, and with her work with women's shelters, at prisons and at nursing homes, Joy's personal ministry also speaks to our hospital's mission, which is to serve the glory of God and the health of his people.
