Construction Updates ADA renovation: expect to see detours
It’s already underway, and some employees are experiencing temporary downtime in certain areas of the hospital. Encompassing mostly patient rooms – not the ICUs – and in order for us to meet the new requirements published by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the construction will be felt by everyone before the project ends in August, 2009. Patient room renovation should include new seamless floor covering, enlarged bathrooms and new color schemes for each floor.
In addition to patient rooms, changes will be made to some of our public areas (drinking fountains, grab bars, door openings) inside and outside the hospital to meet the new requirements. Look for our main entrance to close for modifications some time in October for a month. Employees will use the single door entry to the west of the main entrance.
Although the end of the project seems a long way off (2009), and it will create some minor inconveniences, ultimately the changes will enhance the continued efforts of SLU Hospital to ensure patient, visitor and employee safety.
