CEO is one of the “Top 25 Women in Healthcare"
Modern Healthcare, one of the most influential publications in healthcare, has named Crystal Haynes to the national list of the “Top 25 Women in Healthcare” for 2009.

Haynes has served as the chief executive officer for Saint Louis University Hospital (SLU Hospital) since December 2001. The 365-bed, urban, academic medical center is owned by Tenet Healthcare, employs 1,600 people, and treats more than 2,200 trauma cases a year.

She currently chairs a regional policy board for the American Hospital Association, a role that led her to be the first woman ever elected to chair an American Hospital Association’s regional policy board, and the first woman to serve on the AHA board in that role. In this role, Haynes will be an influential voice in the policies that directly affect hospitals throughout the United States.

Haynes has a unique skill set that gives her the ability to run a for-profit, academic urban medical center that also provides a large amount of charity care (more than any other hospital in the St. Louis region when compared to net revenue). In addition, she belongs to many local and national boards related to improving the quality and access of health care. She is the past president of the St. Louis Metro Hospital Council, the immediate past-chair and current member of the Missouri Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees, and recently began serving on the board of trustees for the Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET).

“I am honored by the selection,” notes Haynes.  “But it’s important to understand that the credit for the success in any healthcare delivery organization or committee that influences healthcare policy is collaborative. I’m constantly surrounded by gifted people who are an ongoing source of inspiration in this challenging time.”

“Ms. Haynes is well-known as a role model in healthcare and she is an essential part of her community. Under her leadership, SLU Hospital continues to stay competitive in the ever-changing field of healthcare,” says Trevor Fetter, president and chief executive officer of Tenet Healthcare Corporation.
