SLU Hospital to Open Annual Fall Saturday Sports Clinic for Student Athletes on August 31
Wednesday, 14 August 2013
ST. LOUIS – To help get student athletes back on the field as quickly as possible, Saint Louis University Hospital will open its annual Fall Saturday Sports Clinic on Saturday, August 31 from 8 a.m. to noon, running each Saturday morning until November 23.

Operated by Saint Louis University’s board-certified orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in sports medicine, the Saturday Sports Clinic treats student athletes (high school and college-level) suffering from sports injuries, such as swelling, numbness, intense pain, tenderness, stiffness or the loss of flexibility.

“When dealing with a sudden, unexpected sports injury, it’s critical to seek immediate medical attention from a sports medicine specialist to help ensure that what was a game-ender doesn’t become a season-ender,” says Scott Kaar, MD, SLUCare orthpaedic surgeon and chief of sports medicine at Saint Louis University Hospital. “That’s why we created the clinic – to offer student athletes immediate orthopaedic care so they can get back in the game as quickly and safely as possible.”

Located at the Anheuser Busch Institute (1755 S. Grand Boulevard, 63104), the Saturday Sports Clinic is staffed by two board-certified orthopaedic surgeons – Scott Kaar, MD, and Adnan Cutuk, MD – with support from athletic trainer, Bridget Quirk, AT. The clinic also offers same-day imaging results on some of the most advanced imaging tools available in the St. Louis region, including a 3T MRI, Open MRI, and 64-slice PET/CT scanner.

The Fall Saturday Sports Clinic will be open every Saturday this fall, providing care on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. to noon on the following dates:

August 31

September 7, 14, 21, 28

October 5, 12, 19, 26

November 2, 9, 16, 23

The Saturday Sports Clinic specialists work closely with athletes’ primary care physicians and athletic training staff to ensure seamless treatment plans and a thorough recovery. The clinic’s goal is to get these athletes back in the game as safely and efficiently as possible.

“Sports injuries are never planned, but they always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times,” says Dr. Kaar. “Now, injured student athletes don’t have to wait until the following week to see a specialist.”
