Pancreas and biliary diseases affect hundreds of thousands of Americans. According to the Pancreas Foundation, approximately 220,000 Americans are diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, and more than 80,000 are diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis every year. If left untreated, these diseases can lead to other medical problems, and ultimately destroy the pancreas.
Pancreatic cancer ranks as the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., and it is expected to become the number one cause in 2030
One of the greatest challenges with pancreatic and biliary diseases is that they can be difficult to diagnose, particularly with such a wide range of symptoms – including abdominal pain, weight loss, diarrhea, bloating and jaundice. An early, accurate diagnosis is critical for successful treatment.
