Tumor Registry

The Tumor Registry is a required component of all approved cancer programs.

The Tumor Registry staff collects, manages, analyzes, and disseminates information on all cancer patients diagnosed or treated at Saint Louis University Hospital.

As of January 1, 2004 the registry also began to collect all benign central nervous system tumors.   The registry maintains data on patients who were diagnosed since January 1, 1997. Utilization of oncology data software offers access to a broad range of data which can be categorized by demographics, cancer identification, state, treatment and diagnosis.

Hospital registries monitor the outcome of cancer care to help determine if one treatment is more effective than another for a given type and extent of cancer. State and other central registries accumulate baseline data so that increases or decreases in cancer incidence can be identified. In, 2006 the registry accessioned a total of 904 cases with 754 of these cases being analytic – diagnosed and/or first course of treatment. The remaining 150 were considered to be non-analytic – which are those that have generally had their first course of treatment elsewhere and are treated here for recurrence, metastatic disease or progression. Refer to table 1.

To date the registry has approximately 7,675 cases in the registry database.
