Saint Louis University Hospital operates a 24 hour emergency room and is a verified Level I Trauma Center, the highest level of trauma care available. The emergency department is on the north side of the hospital and is reached from the LaSalle Street entrance.
The hospital is a Level I Time Critical Diagnosis center for stroke, trauma and STEMI heart attacks. That designation means the team is organized to move the sickest and most badly injured patients from the door to definitive care as fast as possible, around the clock, every day of the year.
As the teaching hospital of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, the emergency department is staffed by emergency physicians and residents who work alongside trauma surgeons, neurologists and cardiologists on call at all hours.
