Surprisingly, cardiac arrest most often strikes people in the prime of their lives--in their mid-30s to mid-40s. Victims may appear healthy before cardiac arrest and have no obvious symptoms of heart disease. If you have a family history of heart disease or have one or more risk factors for heart disease, you need to discuss your heart health with a doctor.

Approximately 2.5 million Americans experience atrial fibrillation each year and many don't recognize the symptoms. This common heart disorder occurs when electrical signals in the heart become irregular, causing the heart’s upper chamber to beat out of rhythm. If left untreated, atrial fibrillation can cause life threatening complications.

We are very happy to announce that Saint Louis University Hospital has reached a new four-year agreement with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri that will be effective through February 2016. We have also reached agreement with HealthLink that will reinstate our in-network status from January 1, 2012 for a period that also extends through February 2016.

Our flu season visitor policy states that children under the age of 18 and pregnant women are not to be allowed to visit on nursing units unless the nurse managers make the exception. This policy is in place to protect the health of our patients and our most vulnerable visitors by preventing the spread of infection. Flu season visitor restrictions apply through March.
