Abdominal Organ Transplant Services
The ever-changing field of organ transplantation poses significant challenges and even greater opportunities when it comes to saving lives. Saint Louis University Hospital's comprehensive, award-winning abdominal organ transplant program – the Center for Abdominal Transplantation – is working to transform these opportunities into successful outcomes. The transplant program's success is further evidenced by unparalleled one-year survival rates.

Building on extensive experience and a long history of nationally-recognized care in hepatology, interventional nephrology and surgery, we are committed to promoting a patient-centered, multi-disciplinary approach to the care of the patient with end-stage organ failure and honoring the donor gift with excellent patient and family care.

Our transplant team, including specially-trained nurses, patient care coordinators and SLUCare physicians, provides medical care for patients with end-stage organ failure requiring liver, kidney, kidney-pancreas, and/or isolated pancreas transplantation. More importantly, we are committed to the well-being of patients and the comfort of their families during the transplant service.

The strength of our team includes extensive experience in:

  • Hepatobiliary system disease
  • Pancreatic disorders in non-transplant patients
  • Liver transplant
  • Liver resection
  • Laparoscopic nephrectomy for living kidney donors
  • Kidney-pancreas transplant
  • ICU specifically dedicated to transplant patients and staffed by skilled transplant nurses

Additionally, our transplant program has been honored with several local and national awards in the past few years, including:

  • Ranked Among the Top 50 Renal Programs in the U.S.
  • Medals of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
  • Donate Life Award from the Missouri Hospital Association.

If this is a medical emergency, call 911 right away.
