January 14, 2014, ST. LOUIS - A new blood test developed by the Scripps Research Institute in California may help identify patients who are at very high risk of a heart attack.
"That's the million dollar question is how to develop a test that can predict a heart attack before it happens," says Michael Lim, MD, co-director of the Center for Comprehensive Cardiovascular Care at Saint Louis University Hospital and a SLUCare cardiologist.
The test — which is not yet available — looks for specific biomarkers in the bloodstream.
