Content:

Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia encountered in practice today, resulting in significant morbidity due to continued symptoms and stroke. This course will address clinical practices to increase awareness and importance of recognizing atrial fibrillation as a treatable risk factor and management practices to proactively avoid complications.

 

Course Objectives

  1. Gain familiarity with the prevalence and complications surrounding atrial fibrillation so that it becomes recognized as an important condition with significant treatment opportunities.
  2. Review the options available for procedural ablation to maintain sinus rhythm.
  3. Be aware of the significant stroke risk that patients have with atrial fibrillation as well as be familiar with the pharmocologic and mechanical therapies that lower this risk.
  4. Review the benefits of an implantable loop recorder for the detection of atrial fibrillation.
  5. Be familiar with the risks of lead extraction and the benefits of a combined surgical electrophysiological team in handling this procedure.
