March 27, 2014, ST. LOUIS - New mothers who gain too much weight in the year after they give birth are at increased risk for diabetes and heart disease, according to a new study.

The study, published March 25 in the journal Diabetes Care, also found that three-quarters of women who lost their "baby weight" during that year had healthy levels of cholesterol and blood pressure.

To shed light on the study and offer tips at losing the baby weight, Lisa Alderson, MD, cardiologist at the Center for Comprehensive Cardiovascular Care (C4) at Saint Louis University Hospital and a SLUCare physician, talked about it with FOX2′s Kim Hudson.

If this is a medical emergency, call 911 right away.
