SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – May 24, 2002 – Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) today announced that Gloria Miller-Bogus, RN, the chief nursing officer at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, has been selected as one of Tenet’s Outstanding Chief Nurse Officers for 2002.
"This award recognizes the superior achievements by the top chief nursing officers at our hospitals," said Thomas B. Mackey, Tenet’s chief operating officer. "Gloria has clearly demonstrated exemplary leadership and has served as a role model in guiding her staff through a remarkable period of change in our business."
Candidates were nominated and reviewed by Tenet’s regional and division leadership. Winners were selected on both objective criteria and subjective evaluations. The Outstanding Chief Nursing Officer award recognizes nursing leaders for excellence in meeting performance targets, as well as success in motivating, training, recruiting and retaining nurses.
Miller-Bogus has been a catalyst for change for nursing operations at SLU Hospital. She has implemented innovative programs that have greatly increased nurse retention at the hospital, such as a retention bonus that rewards nurses for longevity at the facility. Overall vacancies have dropped considerably and nurse satisfaction has greatly increased since her arrival.
Miller-Bogus makes it a point to know each nurse personally. Her efforts have contributed to SLU Hospital being honored as one of the best places to work in the St. Louis area.
