ST. LOUIS – Neurosurgeon Jeroen Coppens, MD, and his colleagues at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital are using a new, less-invasive approach for some patients in need of complex brain surgery. It allows for easier surgical access and imaging through a smaller incision.
Using a new technology called BrainPath, Dr. Coppens can go deeper into the brain to treat issues. Those like deep-seated tumors or intracranial hemorrhage. All through a dime-sized incision rather than opening a large section of the skull.
“This is a benefit for patients with traditionally hard to reach tumors in the brain,” says Dr. Coppens, a SLUCare neurosurgeon at Saint Louis University Hospital. “We are able to reach those structures more safely.”
