September 10, 2014, ST. LOUIS – Neurosurgeons at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital have a new, less-invasive approach for some patients in need of complex brain surgery with a system combining surgical access and imaging through a smaller incision.

Using the BrainPath technology, surgeons can go deeper into the brain to treat issues such as deep-seated tumors and intracranial hemorrhage through a dime-sized incision rather than opening a large section of the skull.

"This is a benefit for patients with traditionally hard to reach tumors in the brain," says Jeroen Coppens, MD, SLUCare neurosurgeon at Saint Louis University Hospital. "We are able to reach those structures more safely."
