At SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, we are incredibly proud of our nurses. The care they give doesn’t only impact our patients and families, but helps make this hospital special.
This afternoon we hosted our annual Nurses Awards and we congratulate these nurses:
Novice Of The Year -
Stacey Cadaret, 5N
Comments:
“Stacey always makes her patients and their families feel they are special. ”
“She understands that she best cares for her patients by including education that enables them to care for themselves (or their loved ones).”
“Stacey knows when to ask for help and also offers help.”
Mentor Of The Year -
Emily Gavin, 6ICU
Comments:
“Emily is constantly challenging the people she is precepting to apply the knowledge they leaned in nursing school to real life situations.”
“She asks people to think critically about why they are preforming the intervention and how it will affect the patients outcome, or why they are responding in a particular way.”
“She helps them grow in a nurturing and caring environment where questions and discussion about care are encouraged.”
Educator of the Year -
Lori Hainaut, Float
Comments:
“Lori has always been involved in helping with skills day and acting as a resource with Epic. Skills day has been run very smoothly this year.”
“She has done a great job as the interim educator. Lori should be commended for all the hard work she has put into the education.”
Leader of the Year -
Laurin McClelland, 5N
Comments:
“Laurin is a permanent charge nurse and is a constant resource for all nurses both old and new.”
“She treats all her colleagues and patients with respect and consistently gives encouragement and support.”
“She understands the many factors involved in providing excellent care to everyone of our patients and that it takes an entire team to do so. She listens calmly and attentively. Then she expertly processes the information using a high level of critical thinking. Finally, she completes the process by effectively communicating the outcome to all those that need the information using all of the resources at her disposal.”
Advocate of the Year -
Shannon Rohlfs, 5ICU
Comments:
“Shannon makes it a point to advocate what is right for her patients. She works hard to get them what they need and spends a lot of time with their family members.
“Shannon is a great advocate for her fellow nurses. She takes the time to rally behind a just cause and for her coworkers.”
Community RN of the Year -
Amanda Fitzpatrick, Float
Comments:
“Amanda is involved in so many extra activities in the hospital. She is always charge nurse, but also a leader of Shared Governance. She dedicates many hours at the hospital when she is not providing direct patient care. Outside of work, Amanda is very involved in Girl Scouts and making the difference in the lives of young woman.”
Manager of the Year -
Marla Lopez, ACU/PACU
“Marla has worked for SLU Hospital for 20 plus years. She has a vast knowledge of how a teaching hospital works. She is a very caring person and a wonderful boss to work for. Marla will come in early and stay late to help the ACU and PACU when its busy or when staffing is critical. She is always available to listen to doctors and staff and solve their dilemmas quickly. She is always very proactive to all RN’s and ancillary personnel. Marla has great leadership and excellent management skills.”
Also, recognized were SSM Health Hero Fitzpatrick, float and Helen Sandkuhl, director: emergency, trauma & disaster services, for her recent “Excellence in Nursing” award from St. Louis Magazine.
