The American Cancer Society (ACS) today thanked Saint Louis University Cancer Center director Mark Varvares, MD, and Kathy Klebert, RN, for their efforts in enrolling patients in a major study the ACS is leading — CPS-3.
ACS representatives Laura Ozenkoski and Kim Thorwegen presented the above plaque from their Epidemiology Research Program to Dr. Varvares and Klebert thanking them for making the SLU site the second biggest in the St. Louis region.
From the ACS site, the Cancer Prevention Study is designed to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Last fall, we were among several sites enrolling people into the study and were just behind behind Maritz in terms of sign ups.
What is the CPS-3?
“The American Cancer Society’s Epidemiology Research Program invited men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 years who had no personal history of cancer to join this historic research study. The ultimate goal was to enroll at least 300,000 adults from various racial and ethnic backgrounds from across the United States and Puerto Rico. … By joining CPS-3, they will help us understand how to prevent cancer, which will save lives and give people more of their most precious resource - time. More time with their families and friends, more memories, more celebrations and more birthdays.”
While enrollment for CPS-3 is closed, you can get more information at CPS3@cancer.org or by calling 888-604-5888.
