As we celebrate Hospital Week, we congratulate these winners of the 2014 Saint Louis University Hospital Nurses Awards:

Novice Of The Year

Brian Ritter, RN, 6 north

“Brian receives daily accolades from patients…His personality attracts people to him..His clinical skills surpass even some tenured RNs…always first to volunteer to participate in unit activities… it is obvious he has been called to nursing…even during orientation patients requested him.”

Roxy Lupien, RN, Wound and Ostemy

Laurin McClelland, RN, 5 North and South

“She is an invaluable asset to the 5th floor…an excellent resource who always supports staff day in and out with a smile…Laurin works very hard, she never leaves her job until everything is done…She is never bothered when you ask her a question, and she is asked questions incessantly…She is always an advocate for her nurses.”

Advocate of the Year

Linda O’Brien, RN, PACU

“Always goes above and beyond…reliable and conscientious…always has charts in order, labs drawn so nothing will delay the patient’s scheduled OR time…Linda will go to the floors to personally draw labs if needed so the patient’s surgery will not be delayed…without her dedication and diligence many inpatients would not be ready on time.”

Community Nurse of the Year

Sarah Calvin, RN, Float Pool

“For the past two years Sarah has been going to Honduras with her church on mission trips…Sarah spends one week of her time each year helping families and children deal with parasites, bacterial infections, nutritional problems to name a few. When she gets back each year she is glowing and bubbly, it is infectious…Her joy has motivated others to give of themselves as well.”
