Appenfeller loves being part of the most unique programs at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. The Center for Outpatient Blood and Marrow Transplant is one of only a few in the country allowing some cancer patients the option of going home each evening rather than a lengthy hospital stay.

“We are evolving and growing nearly every day and with each patient that we treat,” she says. “I find this extremely rewarding yet challenging at the same time and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to grow my career alongside the Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant program.”

She says SLU Hospital is special because of the type of people who work here.

“I have met some of the most driven, hard-working and compassionate people in my six years, particularly those who work with the hematology/oncology patient population,” says Appenfeller. “Enjoying and respecting the people I work with has made it possible to remain in what can be a very emotionally taxing specialty.”
