Trice guides patients through the organ transplant process at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, one of the longest running programs in the country.
“I love making that phone call and telling someone we have an organ for them,” says Trice. “For some patients this is the best phone call they will ever receive and its nice being able to give such exciting news.
“I also love watching their health and quality of life improve post-transplant,” she says. “I saw one of my previous patients in the hall at the Doctors Office Building one day – she was there for a post-transplant appointment – and she looked wonderful and it was so nice to think I had a tiny part in the process.”
The atmosphere of an academic medical center is what makes SLU Hospital special to Trice. “There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not learning something new,” she says. “Everyone works together and you feel that you genuinely part of a team.”
