April 22, 2015, ST. LOUIS – Joe Dunsworth of O’Fallon, MO had grown quite the beard. A Duck Dynasty-style growth he began last June.
It was then that Dunsworth went on the kidney/pancreas list waiting for new organ. With the help of his wife Vonnie he created Team Kidney Beard, vowing not to shave until he got the life saving transplant he needed.
Joe got that transplant April 15 at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and that beard was officially on life support.
With the help of his coordinator Sherry Tenge, RN, and the support of the Center for Abdominal Transplantation at SLU Hospital, he shaved his beard off for FOX2’s Patrick Clark. Watch the story above. So happy for you Joe!
