Atrial fibrillation — or AFIB — is a very common heart rhythm disorder, affecting millions of Americans.
Later this month, you can find out more about a new approach to treating AFIB through a procedure called “Hybrid Maze.”
In the procedure, Richard Lee, MD, cardiac surgery chief at our Center for Comprehensive Cardiovascular Care (C4) and SLUCare electrophysiologist Ali Mehdirad, MD partner to combine two procedures commonly performed for AFIB in cardiac ablation and the Maze procedure. This creates scars on the heart to block the heart’s irregular electrical arrhythmia and cure AFIB.
Dr. Lee talks about it in the video above but if you’d like to hear more, there’s an opportunity coming up later this month at the lecture “The Hybrid Maze - A New Approach to Treating Atrial Fibrillation” Thursday, April 25 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the St. Louis County Library, 1640 South Lindbergh.
