Model Hospital offers an emergency room that strives to provide quick response time and experienced nursing personnel. The ER provides care for a range of illnesses and injuries, including evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and disposition of patients in response to medical or surgical emergencies. The level of care available ranges from continuation or initiation of advanced life support measures to the assessment and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries or acute exacerbation of chronic conditions. The emergency department is staffed 24 hours a day by experienced emergency care physicians and nurses. For patients needing faster emergency transportation, a helicopter from Trauma Services is available to transport patients to the Emergency Room door. Through radio communication with a command center on the sixth floor of the hospital, a trauma team is prepared and ready to care for the injured patient. The helipad is right outside the entrance to the Emergency Department, shaving precious minutes off transportation time and getting the patient into the capable hands of the Emergency Department staff as soon as possible.
