Latest Honor Includes Recognition As One of America’s Best In Seven Areas Of Specialty Saint Louis University Hospital’s upcoming “America’s Best Hospitals” recognition in U.S. News &World Report (July 22, 2002 issue) for seven key specialty areas is the latest in a flurry of achievements for the academic teaching hospital. The announcement places Saint Louis University Hospital and its medical staff partner, the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, among the top 50 hospitals in treatment for the following key disorders and diseases: - Geriatrics (ranked in the top 10 nationally)
- Respiratory
- Heart
- Digestive Disease
- Hormonal Disorders
- Kidney Disease
- Ear, Nose and Throat
“This is another jewel in the Saint Louis University Hospital crown,” notes Crystal Haynes, Chief Executive Officer of Saint Louis University Hospital. “This spring, the hospital was honored by AARP’s Modern Maturity magazine as one of the top 50 hospitals in the United States, and one of the top 10 renal care hospitals.” In addition, Saint Louis University Hospital recently received an impressive accreditation score of 97 (of a maximum of 100) from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), a leader in standards-setting for health care organizations. Saint Louis University Hospital was also named one of the “Best Places to Work in St. Louis” by the St. Louis Business Journal in the May 3-9 edition. Saint Louis University Hospital earned the #1 ranking in the People Development category for companies with 250 or more employees. “We are proud to receive this acknowledgment of the dedication of our staff and physicians,” states Haynes. “It is remarkable for a hospital to be recognized by so many diverse and highly respected organizations.” Saint Louis University Hospital has 356 licensed beds, employs more than 1,600 people, has a medical staff of more than 400 physicians and cares for more than 14,000 inpatients and 180,000 outpatients each year. Saint Louis University Hospital is the academic teaching hospital for Saint Louis University’s health sciences professional clinical programs including the University’s School of Medicine.
