Saint Louis University Hospital assists with providing language translation services for non-English speaking patients through organizations such as Language Access Metro Project (LAMP) and the International Institute of St. Louis, as well as through individual volunteer translators. The hospital also subscribes to Language Line, a 24-hour, toll-free telephone translation service.

On-site translation services usually can be scheduled with a day’s notice for translators from LAMP and the International Institute. However, more notice helps to assure that a translator can be scheduled. Volunteer translators are provided based upon their own availability.

Translation services have been offered for the following languages: Arabic, Armenian, Bosnian, Chinese, Danish, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Kiswahili, Korean, Latvian, Norwegian, Pakistani, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukranian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
