SIUE Student Returns to Thank Emergency and Trauma Team

Clinicians in the SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital emergency and trauma center were amazed to see the progress of Kyle Westerfield today. Kyle stopped by to visit with his dad Jeff and mom Peggy to thank them for their help after a recent accident.

“To see him up and doing so well is remarkable,” says Betsie Westrich, RN, emergency department charge nurse.

Westrich was working the night of April 21 when Westerfield was transferred to our emergency department after an accident left the SIUE student critically injured. With head and neck injuries, he spent two weeks in an ICU. Now, less than two months later he’s up and doing well.
